Sidewalk Chalk

Sidewalk Chalk

Last week in my e-comm class we have been doing team building-slash-ice breaker activities. For the final activity, (you guessed it), we got to use very colorful sidewalk chalk. The first step step was to get set up into our groups.

The groups brainstorming- I'm in the white shirt! 😁
We sat for a while shooting ideas and trying to come up with the best one that incorporated all of our symbols; a rose for me, because that's my middle name and I like roses, a turtle for one of our group members simply because he took an online quiz saying that a turtle was his spirit animal, a bottle of glitter for our third group member because she thought it was a great representation of her personality, and lastly, the fourth member of our group drew a bee. If I'm being completely honest, I don't really remember why. Luckily we had a talented drawer in our group to help us out a bit more! We all sketched for a while and finally, the guy in our group said "jokingly"...

"Lets draw a raven puking out all of the symbols!"

I apologize if you're eating or just ate. I'm pretty sure we all blinked ten times, but the girl sketched a raven... vomiting... the rose, the turtle shell, the bee, and the glitter. I think I was the only one hesitant about the idea, but I just went with it. Hey, at least nobody else had our idea! Finally it was time to go outside. The day was beautiful, and the sprinklers were going off. We found a dry square and began the art process.

It was actually pretty fun! We all drew our own symbols- the good drawer drew the raven, I drew the vomit outline and the trash can.

Our masterpiece being born.

We finally started to draw the symbols and my rose looked like a rose which I was very proud of if I do say so myself. Ya know? Maybe we had to awkwardly explain what it was a couple times receiving judgmental glances, but thats alright. We finished up by coloring the background a gross yellow and orange mix and then blending it with our hands which was very very messy.

Finally, the puking raven was complete. It turned out better than we expected, and our whole group was pretty happy with the result. We exchanged chalky high fives and signed our names. The message I got from this? Try new things and let your imagination run wild.
