Washington DC Panorama

Washington DC Panorama

Summer of 8th grade into Freshman Year, my best friend and I went on a school trip to Our Nations Capitol; Washington DC. Even though it was about a year since then, the trip was a very memorable experience.  It was the first vacation I had went on without my parents there, so I felt some freedom in that realm, even though we weren't going to act up. The first night we spent in DC was one of the best most memorable nights of my life. All of the monuments are illuminated with light and it is a very beautiful thing. The most memorable thing for me was me and 2 of my friends racing up the steps to the Jefferson Memorial. The Jefferson Memorial is pictured on my panorama on the left side, sitting atop the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.  It began to get dark and on the inside of the memorial Jefferson shone from the light that hit him. Another memorial that was very memorable for us was Lincoln. The Lincoln Memorial is iconic, and walking up to it... after walking up a bazillion stairs... is truly extraordinary. Lincoln is sitting in his throne overlooking you, and you are in awe. That was the whole trip.

The trip wasn't only amazing because of the place. It was also the people I spent the trip with. Getting to spend it with friends was such a fun experience! There were lots of laughs.. It sounds crazy but spending 96 hours straight is almost a test of friendship. My friends and I didn’t have any issues, luckily, but I know that there are some friends I couldn’t spend more than 24 hours with. We also barely slept, maybe 5 hours a night, so we were awake with each other for way over 70 hours. I think that is one of the things that made that trip so special; it was definitely a once in a life time opportunity. Although, the third day was the longest day. We went to the White House at 5 am, Arlington National Cemetary in the rain almost right after, and then went to the capital building for a long long time. Let me just say that it is really awesome to say that I have been in the White House, but stepping into the White House was very anticlimactic because you’re only allowed in the “visitor center.” You aren’t gonna go in there and see Donald Trump’s bedroom. But anyway, the day was hecticly long. We didn’t want the trip to end, but we did want to just go back to the hotel to relax.. But the thing is that when we got back to the hotel, we didn’t want the night to end. We were rebelliously jumping in the elevators and were eating in our bed eating ice and watching hoarders. We played card games with our chaperone/DC dad and we hung out with our chaperone/DC mom for a bit. It was the little parts of the trip that mean the most.

The last day was emotional. We didn’t want to leave. Our incredible, historical weekend was coming to an end. We saw the Washington Monument up close and we saw all of the smithsonians; we didn’t get any time in the Air and Space museum which definitely made me a little upset, but it was alright. We spent a whole hour in the gift shop instead. That day was long aswell. We visited the cathedral. It was very beautiful and we got a tour of the inside. Going into the basement of the church was definitely kind of haunting, but it was still very cool to see. We went out back to see the gardens, and there was a rabbit that my friends and I chased around the whole time. We hopped back on the bus f
or the last time and drove straight to the airport and headed for home. Washington DC was a weekend I will never forget!

I personally believe that the color scheme I chose had great impact on the theme I chose. I was going to do red, white and blue for America, but I thought I would just stick to blue, and I think it looks very nice. Maybe my panorama is different from everybody else’s, but I am still happy with how it turned out. I think my panorama has a nice amount of balance, which I was worried that it would lack. You can tell I started to blend near the right, but had difficulties doing it elsewhere on my project. Like mentioned before I am still happy with how it turned out and out of the 4 projects we have done so far, this is the one I take most pride in :) .
