My Self-Portrait Artist Statement
Overview
In my self-portrait, I chose to represent myself by visiting the Deanna Rose farm and recording a bunch of animals! What I wanted to show others about myself was that I love animals very much, and that farm animals represent my warm and fluffy heart. I wanted to show this because I feel as if animals are a very big part of my life. When we viewed my classmates' portraits, one that I found interesting was a kid who played an accurate cover of the 'The Office' theme song on the piano- it was interesting because he was somebody who I wouldn't expect to play the piano! The portrait made me want to go home and learn to play.Choices I Made
If I'm being completely honest, I didn't purposely use any techniques. The video lacked professionalism. One thing I did decide to do was use/show my walking as transitions between the different animal pens, in hopes of making the viewer feel as if they were walking with me. Maybe it wasn't the best option, but it was a choice I spontaneously decided to make. I did try my best to keep my camera still, and I made sure to film my video in landscape mode. Like mentioned before, I used animals to display my love of them. I wanted to show this because animals are a big part of my life and I love them very much. Also, I feel like crocs are a silly shoe that correspond with my silly personality.
In the End...
Ultimately, I hope my classmates learned about my love for animals and that I tried to make my videos as clean-looking as I can. I think that I was sort of successful; the transitions between pens were very long. A challenge I faced while creating my self-portrait was getting an equal balance of animals and shoes in the video. It was hard to get to each pen without speed walking or even jogging. I'm not very sure if I overcame this challenge, but it doesn't feel like I did because I did a few takes and they all turned out around the same, some even worse than others. There were none that I was proud of. If I were to make another self-portrait, I would put more planning into it. Overall I learned that I can put effort into things if I try, and that not being able to edit videos can be harsh, especially if you have to show it to a group of people.
